The Best Trick or Treat Spots in Asheville
Is there anything more fun than watching the little kids dressed up in their scariest or fanciest outfits running from house to house asking for candy? Trick-or-Treating is an American institution and it’s a lot of fun to get into it. Where in Asheville can you get the best candy or have the most fun? Here is a list of some of the spots you can trick-or-treat this year.
Vermont Avenue
The biggest Halloween extravaganza in the city is on Vermont Avenue in West Asheville. This is an entirely neighborhood-driven street party put together by residents and volunteers. From 5:30 to 9 pm on Halloween night, October 31, Vermont is transformed into a trick or treat haven for kids of all ages.
Some years have a theme, but you don’t have to dress to fit the theme. And, there may still be time to volunteer with the Vermont Avenue trick-or-treat experience this year.
Montford
Though a less formally organized event, many families bring their children to the historic Montford neighborhood in North Asheville. Homes all across the community decorate for Halloween and participate in the traditional Trick-or-Treat experience.
Montford is a great walkable neighborhood and it’s good for parents with small children or groups of older kids out on their own.
Grove Park and Sunset Neighborhood
Another area in North Asheville ripe for trick-or-treating is Grove Park and Sunset neighborhood. On both sides of Charlotte Street, homes decorate for Halloween and offer treats for kids in costumes. If you don’t often have a chance to wander through the historic turn of the century and 1920s home in these neighborhoods, Halloween is a great time to start.
Wandering from the Grove Park area down Murdock also gives you more access to homes offering treats for little ones.
Indoor Events
For kids without access to walkable neighborhoods, the Asheville mall offers an annual alternative to trick-or-treating. Kids in costumes, from fancy to frightening, can go store to store to beg for candy. This gives them a safe, indoor space for Halloween fun. The event lasts until the mall closes at 9pm.
The Asheville Outlets also sponsor a trick-or-treat extravaganza they call Boo Bash. It runs from 5pm to 8pm so it’s perfect for little trick-or-treaters who tire out early. This event is also dog friendly.
