Summer 2021: New Restaurants in Asheville to Check Out This Year
The pandemic was hard on small businesses, especially restaurants. Some closed up shop, and we’ll miss them in our city. But nature abhors a vacuum, and we’re beginning to see new businesses open up as people get out more. What are the new restaurants you should check out this summer? Here are just a few.
Baby Bull
A new project by the team of Bull and Beggar down in the River Arts District has taken over the old original White Duck building. Baby Bull is a modern burger joint that takes classic burger ideas and spins them with culinary vision.
Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken
Everything Merherwan Irani touches turns to gold. His flagship restaurant, Chai Pani, has expanded into nearby Georgia. He owns a spice empire called Spicewalla. He co-owns Buxton Hall Barbeque and is partnering with their new concept at the S&W Market (more on that below.) Now, open in the Grove Arcade, is Nani’s Rotisserie Chicken. The storefront sells complete meals-to-go with your choice of chicken and various sides.
Little Pearl
Located across from Asheville Mall on South Tunnel is Little Pearl, Asheville’s newest seafood restaurant. They have a raw bar along with burgers, wings, and seafood entrees. It sounds like a great summer place for a beer and a dozen oysters.
The Madness
Suppose you want something way out of the box, head over to far west Asheville off Patton, one mile past the DMV, to check out The Madness. It’s an unassuming little bar and restaurant in a new shopping center, but the concept is as unique as it gets. It’s a Burger and Sushi joint, and it’s well worth checking out the innovative but delicious food.
The S&W Market
We have also seen the grand reimagining of the S&W Market with an incredible local twist. This collaboration between local businesses will open in the historic S&W building and heralds Highland Brewing’s return to downtown. The partnership includes Buxton Chicken Palace, owned by Merawhan Irani’s Chai Pani group, The Hop Ice Cream, and Bun Intended bao buns.
