Hot Summer Events in Asheville
I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for summer. After a long, cold and wet winter and spring, the thought of summer sunshine and warm temperatures makes me excited. I moved to the mountains to experience all 4 seasons, but the blizzards and flooding can be exhausting after a while. Summertime is officially here at the end of this month, so let’s all get outside and participate in activities around the community. There are too many for us to list, but here are a few highlights for the summer.
Downtown After 5
An Asheville institution, Downtown After 5 happens on the third Friday of every month from May to September. In fact, this year, Teona from GoPrime will be helping REACH with wristband sales. If you’re already familiar, you know that wristbands are the only way to can consume alcohol in the festival area. And at each downtown event, local organizations sell the wristbands to raise money.
This year’s Downtown After 5 has an amazing line up all summer. June 21st welcomes Temeca Jones from Austin TX. Her sound is reminiscent of early Motown. On July 19th, see Shamarr Allen from New Orleans who played with the band Galactic. 70s rock and alt-Americana band The Artisanals will be headlining the event on August 16th.
Vegan Fest
In line with our core values of health and wellbeing, we’re excited about this year’s Vegan fest sponsored by Brother Wolf. Even if you’re not personally vegan, Asheville has long demonstrated a mastery in the art of vegan and vegetarian cooking, so it’s worth checking out.
This year’s even it coming up quick on June 9th, so head downtown to check out some of the best vegan cuisine our city has to offer. You can also shop for vegan products, listen to speakers, and sample all the food made entirely without animal products.
4th Of July
We know we’re about a month away from 4th of July celebrations, but we thought you might want to get prepared. You’ll certainly have a lot to choose from when it comes to fireworks. Not only does Asheville itself have a downtown fireworks display, but many surrounding cities do as well. Besides downtown Asheville, other events include:
- Asheville Tourists Baseball Game and Fireworks
- Fireworks at Lake Julian
- Black Mountain Street Dance and Fireworks
- Montreat Parade
- Weaverville Fireworks at Lake Louise
And those are just a handful of events in the area.
Laugh Your Asheville Off
In August, we think you might need a laugh break so check out Asheville’s premier comedy festival Laugh Your Asheville Off. The thirteenth annual event runs from August 7th to 10th and is held at the Diana Wortham Theater downtown.
As we are writing this post, the final schedule isn’t up and they’re still open for submissions, but check back with Laugh Your Asheville Off to see more.
