Homeward Bound of WNC: News, Events, and How to Get Involved
Homeward Bound of WNC is an organization dedicated to reducing homelessness in our community. They work with local businesses, including the real estate market, to raise money and volunteer throughout Asheville. The team at GoPrime in West Asheville works closely with the REACH fund to raise money to end chronic homelessness in our city.
What’s On Deck This Year
At the end of August, Homeward Bound of WNC hosted a reading of author Kathy Izzard’s new memoir The Hundred Story Home. A wife, mother, and professional graphic designer, Izzard was inspired when she met a former author experiencing homelessness. That chance meeting led to an amazing second act for Izzard when she decided to work in Charlotte building houses for the homeless.
Also happening at Homeward Bound this year, the organization is collecting sofas. If you have a couch you don’t need or are moving something out to bring in something new, consider donating it to the organization. Check out the Facebook page to learn more.
On October 12, join Homeward Bound of WNC and GoPrime Mortgage at Harmonies for Homes at the Salvage Station. This concert, which starts at 6pm, will benefit the REACH Fund. The amazing local artists in the lineup include:
- The Paper Crowns Duo
- DownTown Abby & The Echoes
- Andrew Scotchie & the River Rats
- Aaron Woody Wood Trio
- JBOT and Friends: Josh Blake , CaroMia Tiller , Ryan Rnb Barber, Marisa Blake, Juan Holladay and Kayla Lynn
And on Saturday, November 16 at 8am, join Homeward Bound of WNC and the Olivette Community in North Asheville for the Fall Colors run. Racers will enjoy spectacular views of all that Western North Carolina’s fall has to offer. And it all benefits Homeward Bound of WNC.
Help Around the Holidays
Organizations like Homeward Bound of WNC are always looking for help, especially around the holiday season. As October begins the seasons of celebration with its spectacular fall colors and Halloween, we know that Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, including Christmas, are right around the corner.
This is the time of year to volunteer. To learn more about the volunteering process and the needs of Homeward Bound of WNC, visit their volunteer page or contact the organization.
Volunteering over the holidays, as well as the rest of the year, has a lot more benefits than just helping the community. Did you know that it’s good for your own health and wellbeing?
Volunteering helps:
- Connect you to others
- Keep your mind and body healthy
- Advance your career
- Bring fun and fulfillment to your life
All of these ideas are great reasons to give back to your community. Asheville is a city known for its inclusiveness and compassion, especially when it comes to our citizens experiencing homelessness. Learn more about volunteering today.
