Spring has officially sprung! That means it’s finally time to shed those extra layers and get outside where the sun is shining. What is there to do in the springtime around the Bay Area? With such a fantastic ecosystem stretching from the ocean to the mountains, here are a few springtime activity recommendations for you to enjoy.
Point Reyes National Seashore
A national park, Pointe Reyes, is a protected coastline in Marin County about two hours northwest of San Francisco. Take in the beaches, cliffs, mountains, grasslands, trails, forests, and even a lighthouse when you visit the area. You can start at the visitor center to get your bearings, and from there hike the extensive trails, walk along the shore, or camp in the designated areas.
Mount Diablo State Park
Visible from the Bay Area, Mount Diablo is well worth a trip for a hike or picnic. The trails are perfect for many different skill levels, whether you want a casual hike with family, or something more challenging. Keep in mind that dogs are welcome at campsites or paved areas, but not on the trails. There are even areas to ride your bike or bring your horse.
Muir Woods National Monument
California is synonymous with the redwood forests, and the perfect springtime spot is Muir Woods National Monument. For a long time it was thought the redwoods would be around forever, but climate change is beginning to affect these forests as well, so now is the time to check them out. Along with trails and driving routes there are also accessible trails for individuals with disabilities.
Natural Bridges State Beach
Natural Bridges State Beach is a unique place to visit along the California Coast. You can watch sea birds, whales, seals, and even otters. Walk among the tide pools to get a glimpse of marine life and take in the spectacular native wildflowers in the spring. Be sure to check out the Monarch Grove before the butterflies migrate for the summer.
