3 Fun Things to Do This Fall in WNC
On September 22nd this year, we celebrate the autumn equinox. This day is the solar opposite of the spring equinox and marks the second time of the year when the night and day are the same lengths. As the days grow shorter and we head toward winter, our area of the country comes alive. The trees burst with fall colors, and we celebrate at festivals around WNC. Here are a few festivals and outdoor activities you can do this fall.
Autumn at Oz at Beech Mountain
If you’re looking for something entirely out of this world, consider visiting Autumn at Oz at Beech Mountain. This privately owned and unique Wizard of Oz-themed park only opens a few times per year. This year, they’re hosting the Autumn at Oz weekends in September, including next weekend. Grab your tickets and bring the whole family.
French Broad River Festival
Heading up to Hot Springs from October 1st through 3rd, you can participate in the annual French Broad River Fest. The festival combines art and entertainment with outdoor adventure sports like whitewater rafting, biking, hiking, and more. The event takes place at the Hot Springs Campground and Spa. There will be plenty of food on-site, or you can check out the fantastic restaurants in town.
Apple Harvest Festival
About 15 minutes west of Asheville is the city of Waynesville. This year, they’ll hold their Apple Harvest Festival on October 16th. This is the 34th year of the event, and you can expect music, vendors, and food all around the festival site. The Haywood County Chamber of Commerce puts on the Apple Harvest Festival, and they promise a streamlined and safe event this year.
Since things are very much in flux this year, we suggest you check ahead before visiting any of these festivals to ensure they’re still happening as scheduled.
Spend Time with Family and Friends
Of course, you don’t need festivals and events to enjoy spending time with your family this fall. Consider hiking or biking on any of the trails in the WNC area.
