Have a Safe and Happy Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day, celebrated the first Monday of September, is right around the corner. Now that many of us feel more comfortable out and about, it’s time to consider what activities you and your family can participate in over the long weekend. Here’s a mix of solo activities and festivals happening around the area.
The North Carolina Apple Festival in Hendersonville
The Apple Festival returns to Hendersonville this year. Throughout the four-day weekend, there will be live entertainment, art, and of course, apples. And don’t worry, there will still be a parade this year. Gather the family and make your way down to Hendersonville to enjoy the annual apple festival.
The Canton Labor Day Festival
The city of Canton is bringing back its Labor Day Festival to celebrate all things in Western North Carolina. Featuring live music from artists all across our state, the Canton Labor Day Festival will also have local food and an artist market.
The Labor Day Celebration on Lake Lure
Lake Lure will celebrate Labor Day on Rumbling Bald with a huge neighborhood block party. Beachside cookouts, pool parties, and marshmallow roasts will punctuate the festivities. And don’t forget the Red, White, and Blue golf tournament on Monday.
Paddling the French Broad
If you’re excited to get outside over Labor Day weekend but aren’t quite ready for city festivals, consider tubing or paddling the French Broad. You don’t need to sign up with an outfitter for this one. Just put in your tube, kayak, or paddleboard at any area parks and spend the day floating down the river.
Hikes In the Area
If the river isn’t your scene, you can stick to dry land and check out any of the hundreds of fantastic hiking trails throughout Western North Carolina. There are trails for all skill levels near and far from the city of Asheville.
