Stay Home + Celebrate

Holiday stress is no joke. When you least expect it, you may begin to feel overwhelmed seemingly out of nowhere, especially around hosting or gift-giving. One way to reduce seasonal anxiety is to stay home and celebrate with the loved ones closest to you. You don’t have to give in to the corporate gift-buying extravaganza. Consider giving thoughtful homemade gifts or an opportunity to participate in a fun experience instead. Sometimes staying in and watching movies all day or going out and walking through your neighborhood to see the decorations can feel just as special.

Take Some Time Away

Alternatively, consider getting away for a while if you want to avoid the overwhelming holiday push. If financially able, many people take this opportunity to travel out of the country with the great travel deals around this time of year. This is a great way to give yourself a break and avoid the commercialism of the holiday season. If you can’t travel abroad, consider going somewhere local to enjoy time alone or with your closest friends or family members. Whether you prefer a cabin and skiing adventure or hunting for seashells with friends, consider using this time to connect with nature.

Favorite Holiday Traditions

This time of year is an excellent time to assess your favorite holiday traditions. What you celebrate will be very personal for you. Some people celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah while other families honor Kwanzaa. Some instead recognize the Winter Solstice and the seasonal change. Many choose to enjoy celebrating the season without a spiritual or cultural overtone.
