The School Year is Starting Soon: What You Should Know About the Asheville Area Schools
Western North Carolina is gearing up for another school year. After last year, it’s okay to have questions about what in-person school will look like. Here are a few things you should know about some of the Asheville area school districts, private schools, and homeschool resources for families.
Asheville City Schools
Asheville City School District will return to the classroom as usual for the 2021-22 year. Schools will continue to follow recommendations from health officials and the state government if anything changes. They will be providing alternative learning options for those students and families who self-report as high risk. Classes resume Monday, August 23rd.
Buncombe County Schools
Throughout the area, Buncombe County Schools will be back in session this year as well. For all grades, there will be in-class learning five days a week. The county also offers a virtual classroom experience, the Buncombe County Virtual Academy, available for students who work better at home, homeschool families, or those who may identify as high-risk. Schools will also return on the 23rd of August.
Area Private Schools
The Asheville area is also home to many private school options. There are too many to list, but we’ve shared a few for you to look at policies for returning to the classroom in 2021.
We welcome your input. Let us know if you have information about your private school’s policies for the 2021-22 school year.
Homeschool Alternatives
For families that choose to homeschool, the impact of the 2021-22 school year policies may not be a significant concern for you. Along with the Buncombe County Virtual Academy listed above, you may also want to check out other resources in the area. The Asheville Homeschool Co-Op was founded in 2004 and is in the area to support homeschooled families.
