Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring already sprung back in mid-March here in the mountains of Western North Carolina. But we still have a little spring left this May before summertime hits us with lazy, sunshine filled days. That means it’s a great time for spring cleaning. Opening your home, letting in the fresh air, and taking time to dust the cobwebs from the corners are just the beginning. Here are some spring cleaning ideas to get you through what’s left of the season.
General Spring Cleaning Tips
Though you may have already had a head start on the process, now is a good time to make sure you didn’t miss anything. Here’s a checklist to help you.
- Declutter everything
- Deep clean your carpets
- Remove pet hair
- Clean appliances
- Sort your closet
While vacuuming keeps your carpets from getting overloaded with dirt, an annual deep clean is a great way to preserve the quality of your carpeting and keep your home free of allergens and irritants. Pet hair, for instance, can build up over time even when you don’t notice it.
Cleaning your appliances means everything. Run your oven’s cleaning cycle. Clean out your refrigerator, including all those condiments, and steam your microwave for easier cleaning. You can also run a cleaning cycle on your dishwasher and washing machine using vinegar.
For your closet, swap out winter and summer clothes and also take the time to ditch anything you haven’t worn. Donating these items to local charities is a great way to clean your closet and give back to the community.
Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products
If you want to be environmentally conscious about your spring cleaning, Asheville’s the place to be. Plenty of people around town can give you suggestions. There are even several green cleaning services in the area if you’d rather have someone else do all the dirty work.
In our office, we use Root & Well made locally by Nico Lette. Her lavender and vinegar floor cleaner is amazing stuff and perfect for hard wood floors.
Getting Your Home Ready to Sell
Spring cleaning will also be essential when you’re ready to put your current home on the market before you find your next home in Asheville. Cleaning and staging are imperative when selling a home as it gives the prospective buyers a chance to see your home as a clean slate.
Deep clean everything. Freshen up walls with a new coat of paint. Downsize in terms of furniture so the home looks bigger without a lot of clutter. All of these things will help you sell faster and find your next Asheville home.
