Our North Carolina Home: Just a Few Reasons We Love Asheville
Do you love where you live? One of the things that we’ve found living here in Asheville is that loving the city is an integral part of the entire experience. Sure, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect rainbows and puppies all the time. Like any region, there are pros and cons to living in the Western North Carolina area. We also know that our town can get into your soul and once you fall in love, it’s hard to fall out again. If you already live in Asheville, you may know what we’re talking about. If you don’t, here are just a few reasons we love our town.
The Mountains are Calling
Did you know that the Appalachian Mountains are one of the oldest mountain chains in the world? At one time they were as high as the Rocky Mountains, but experienced natural erosion over the last 480 million years.
The people who flock to the area know that these mountains are magical. They bubble up from the surface with quartz, garnet, and other gems. They have gentle slopes, are covered in vegetation and are home to a wide range of wildlife.
Art, Design, Music and More
Asheville has always been known as a counter-culture city. Even in the 1920s, it became a playground for creatives, like Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Before the most recent tourist boom took hold in the 2000s, Asheville attracted artists from around the country who moved in and made the city just a little weird – a good weird, obviously. When the city is in full swing, music fills the streets with buskers on every corner downtown.
The River Arts district itself was built around galleries for any type of art you can imagine, from paintings to mosaic to metal to sculpture. Asheville feeds our creative spirit.
Food and more Food
We also can’t deny how the tiny town of Asheville has become a culinary destination. We have several James Beard nominees and winners with restaurants around town. If you want elevated Indian street food, for example, Chai Pani is a long-standing institution in downtown Asheville. From accessible bar food to top-end dining, Asheville has something for everyone.
It’s hard to ignore the booming craft beer scene in town, too. Even if you don’t enjoy beer, you will find that the breweries have become our liveliest spots for socializing with friends and strangers alike.
Positive Community Involvement
One thing you’ve probably learned about me and the team at GoPrimeMortgage in West Asheville over the years is that involvement in the community is a top priority. And Asheville, more than almost any other place any of us have lived, is community-oriented.
If you want to get involved, Asheville is the place for you. It’s a reasonably-sized city but with a small-town feel. You get to know your neighbors, community leaders, and local business owners just by being out and about every day.
