We believe that strong communities grow from neighbors helping neighbors. Last month, Asheville mortgage lender Zack Adam organized a volunteer day at Root Cause Farm in Fairfield. Zack and 12 other members of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce rolled up their sleeves to help support the organization’s mission to grow community solutions to hunger.
More Than 200 Pounds Harvested
Our volunteers collected and harvested over 200 pounds of sweet potatoes and cherry tomatoes—food that would go directly to families in the community through Root Cause Farm’s no-cost Tuesday market and their partnership with Bounty and Soul. But the work didn’t stop at harvesting. We helped fertilize chard plants and laid ground cover to protect future crops, seeing firsthand how sustainable farming practices support both the land and the people who depend on it.

A Farm With a Mission That Matters
Root Cause Farm (formerly “The Lord’s Acre”) is about one acre and grows more than 6 tons of organic produce. Their Tuesday markets provide fresh, healthy produce at no cost to anyone who needs it—no questions asked and no income requirements. The farm works directly with organizations like Bounty and Soul, which have been advancing food and health equity in our region since 2014 to ensure that fresh food reaches families in a racially just and dignified manner.
There’s something powerful about working with your hands alongside neighbors who share your commitment to community.
Fellowship in the Field
Beyond the tangible harvest, our volunteer day created something equally valuable: fellowship. Working side by side, we shared stories, solved problems together, and built relationships that extend far beyond any networking event. There’s something powerful about working with your hands alongside neighbors who share your commitment to community. These connections matter in business, but they matter even more in building the kind of community where families want to put down roots and call home.
Why Community Investment Matters
As mortgage lenders in West Asheville, we help families find their place in our community every day. But homeownership is just the beginning: what makes a house truly feel like home is the network of neighbors, local businesses, and organizations that support each other. Events like our Root Cause Farm volunteer day strengthen those connections and remind us that we’re all invested in Western North Carolina’s future.
We are proud to help build a community where everyone has what they need to flourish: whether it’s helping a first-time homebuyer in Asheville navigate the mortgage process or spending a morning harvesting sweet potatoes.
Getting Involved in Our Community
Root Cause Farm welcomes volunteer groups year-round and family-friendly drop-in volunteer sessions from 4-6pm every Sunday from March through November. Community members can view volunteer opportunities on the website or follow Root Cause Farm on Instagram for the latest updates.
“Zack with GoPrime is squarely one of the most friendly passionate loan officers in our area with a true commitment to supporting folks in their home buying journey. I have appreciated the education around home buying, his connection to the community, and his positive presence with the Asheville Chamber leading networking experiences for local business leaders.”
