I believe that our health, mind, body, and spirit affect all aspects of our lives. I think that when we have those in alignment we will feel better about other informed choices, like our financial health. Now that we’re into 2023, I wanted to share with my Asheville Area Wellness Guide picks for healthy activities, holistic healthcare providers, mental health resources, and more. Read on!
Pulp + Sprout
This Asheville-based juice bar and vegan café sources all locally grown, high quality, nutrient dense, organic food to whip up into delicious dishes. They are passionate about producing an organic plant-based menu and freshly made cold pressed juices. Still need convincing? Try their vegan cheesecake!
Earth Fare
This local market has expanded throughout the country, but it all started right here in Asheville. The chain refers to itself as a “health and wellness supermarket” that focuses on local foods. If you’re looking for something specific, there’s a good chance Earth Fare will have it – even if the other big chains don’t. The first Earth Fare location to open is on Westgate Parkway. Or, if you’re south of the city, you can visit the Earth Fare location on Hendersonville Road.
Asheville Community Yoga
It’s not a secret that yoga is pervasive throughout the Asheville area. So many people are yoga instructors, and that’s a great thing. It means there are tons of yoga resources available for everyone at all skill levels and all price points. A standout among these is Asheville Community Yoga.
Asheville Community Yoga is a nonprofit center that offers donation-based yoga courses along with tons of other amazing healthy services. They have mindfulness programs and meditation classes, and even offer special yoga classes for children and seniors. Not only will you feel good physically, but you will know that your donation helps the center offer programs to the entire Asheville community through your participation.
Underground Fitness
You may want to work up a pretty major sweat when you exercise, and there are plenty of gyms to check out. One of these that I want to highlight is Underground Fitness. Located in the South Slope near many of the city’s breweries, you can visit this convenient high-intensity workout space and do good in the community. Every two months, Underground Fitness donates to a local charity or non-profit based on member feedback.
Asheville Salt Caves
Are you looking for something way more low-key than high-intensity fitness? If so, you may want to visit the Asheville Salt Caves. The concept is simple: relax in solitude or community surrounded by pink salt in what they describe as the “microclimate” of a salt mine. The Salt Caves also offer couples massages, kids quiet time, sound healing concerts, yoga nidra guided meditation.
Sona Clinic
There may be occasions in your life where you need more traditional healthcare. In these cases I suggest checking out Sona Clinic on Fairview Road in East Asheville. It’s a walk-in clinic that can handle immediate care for things like colds, flus, and a number of other ailments that may not warrant an emergency room visit.
Sona Clinic also has its own in-house pharmacy, which makes the entire visit very convenient. They can work with you based on your insurance coverage, but also have set self-pay rates for those without insurance to help get medical care.
One Love Chiropractic
I also love chiropractic medicine, specifically One Love in North Asheville. The clinic is established for patients of all ages. They specialize in prenatal adjustments and can help patients experiencing discomfort from sports injuries. If you’re considering a holistic approach to health and wellness for your entire family, a visit to One Love might be in order.
Ebb + Flow Massage
Sometimes pampering yourself with a great massage is just what the doctor ordered. There are plenty of other reasons to consider massage; it can help with anxiety, muscle pain, blood flow, and so much more.
In West Asheville we’re lucky to have one of the best massage places in town. They offer a variety of services that includes everything from deep tissue to chair massages, all at very reasonable rates. There is even a tea room where you can enjoy relaxing teas from Asheville Tea Company while you wait.
Sauna House
This bathhouse believes that all things should be sustainable for both people and the planet. They are committed to creating a healing space without hurting mother nature. By omitting any single-use plastics, they focus on using only clean products, with clean ingredients in their facility. If you’re curious about bathhouses and their benefits, this is a great place to check out.
Stillpoint Wellness
Of course Asheville also has several more alternative therapies available. One you might not have considered before is salt water floatation. This sensory deprivation experience will give you an amazing sense of calm and total relaxation.
Also there, you can experience Esalen Massage. This is a therapy developed in California, a full body massage that works with long, flowing strokes designed to open up the energies of your body and work with your natural experience.
OM Sanctuary
If what you want is to get away from it all, Asheville has that for you too. OM Sanctuary is a holistic retreat center that provides tools to integrate throughout your life – even after returning home. They have various retreats and programs that integrate mindful practices, sustainable living, and transformational arts. It is one of my favorite picks for the Asheville Area Wellness Guide.
OM stands for Oshun Mountain, which symbolizes renewal and strength. You can participate in presenter-led educational experiences, special events like festivals and concerts, sacred ceremonies, and personalized healthy lifestyle programs.
These are just a few of the things you’ll find throughout Asheville to work on various aspects of your own health and wellness. In a city that’s long been associated with holistic health, we’re grateful to have such a huge network of providers and practitioners.
